The Damon Runyon Theatre: The Idyll of Miss Sarah...
Sarah: Have you ever thought of your own soul, Mister Sky?
Sky: Sometimes
Sarah: I see. Either way, when I heard this was going on, I wondered about something.
Sky: What?
Sarah: Are you risking your soul on these bits or just your money?
Sky: My money.
Sarah: But not your soul? All right, Mister Sky, I'll gamble with you.
Sky: What d'you mean?
Sarah: I know something about gambling, it ruined my father and my brother, broke my mother's heart. Yes, I know something about gambling. Will you gamble with me, Mister Sky?
Sky: Look, Miss Brown, maybe you'd better go.
Sarah: No, I'll gamble with you on the same terms that you gambled with everyone here. I will bet one dollar against your soul. That's all I have.
Sky: Miss Brown, that's a very small bet.
Sarah: It's a very small soul.
Sky: Bates, give her the dice. You heard me, Bates.
Sarah: Do we have a bet, Mister Sky? One dollar against the life you lead. One dollar against your soul. Will you keep the bet?
Sky: I never welch.
Sarah: All right.
Sky: Roll the dice.
Bates: Eleven! She wins. There is a dead hush. Miss Brown looks up at Sky, Sky looks at Miss Brown with a little smile on his lips. Then he says-
Sky: I never welch on a bit
Sarah: You're a fool, you're a fool!
Sky: I love you, Miss Sarah Brown.
Sarah: I hate you, I hate you. Let me out of here, please let me out.
Sky: Yeah, it's like I said, I'm half out of luck, but the half I've got left is pretty good.
